The delivery of primary health care
in Alaska confronts many challenges. Limitations on access to
primary care may result from financial barriers, too few providers,
cultural and social differences, and problems of transportation.
Approximately 35% of Alaska's geographic area has inadequate primary
care access.
In 1996, ICHS provided a descriptive
analysis of primary care providers in Alaska to help identify
and determine the degree of underserved or primary care shortage
areas in the state.
A final report can be obtained through
the UAA Consortium Library or ICHS.
